Advanced Spine Care, In Your Neighborhood

Dr. Bailey, who sees patients in Butler, New Castle, Sewickley, and Wexford, specializes in the surgical management of degenerative spine disease of the cervical (upper), thoracic (middle), and lumbar (lower) spine, utilizing both traditional and minimally invasive approaches.

Back pain can really limit a person’s ability to maintain an active lifestyle, get comfortable for a good night’s sleep, and much more. Dr. Bailey says if nonsurgical treatments, such as chiropractic care, physical therapy, or steroid injections, don’t relieve symptoms, surgery may be needed to remove bone or ligament, or to relieve pressure on the nerves helping to reduce pain, numbness, or other symptoms.

“There are some pathologies patients show up with that require more invasive surgeries,” says Dr. Bailey. “But anytime we can, we use less invasive surgical options to treat a patients’ symptoms maximally.”

  • The UPMC Neurological Institute offers minimally invasive brain care for a variety of conditions including: Brain tumors — malignant and nonmalignant.
  • Trigeminal neuralgia — a condition affecting the trigeminal nerve, which can lead to a brief, intermittent, electrical pain on one side of the face.
  • Acoustic neuroma — a noncancerous tumor on the vestibulocochlear nerve that can affect hearing and balance.
  • Chiari malformation — a structural abnormality of the cerebellum and parts of the brain stem, which can lead to headaches at the base of the head that get worse during strenuous activities.
  • Hemifacial spasm — a condition involving the facial nerve, which can lead to a twitch that starts around one eye and slowly progresses to involve the lower face.
