Read 10 reasons why we love nurses

Think of a nurse in your life — odds are, you know one (or a few). Maybe that nurse is you.

We know nurses are incredible forces of positivity and drivers of change — and that they could certainly use a few more thank-yous.

Maybe a nurse held your hand while you got your IV, or patiently answered question after question as you tried your best to understand a complicated diagnosis. If you have a nurse in your life, you know just how strong they are.

For those men and women who devote their lives to the health and well-being of others, here are ten reasons why we appreciate what you do.

10 Reasons to Love Nurses

1. Nurses combine science and technology with care and compassion.

A strong sense of compassion sets nurses apart — and it’s the reason many enter the profession in the first place. Nurses have the opportunity to heal with a combination of clinical expertise and sheer altruism.

2. Nurses are exceptionally skilled and highly trained.

Nursing school is intense — they work hard to get where they are. And that should be comforting when you or a loved one are in their care.

3. They are passionate about helping others.

Nurses care for people they have never met and may never see again. They made a lifelong commitment to help anyone and everyone.

4. Nurses have demanding schedules and an incredible work ethic.

Our nurses always place their patients, families, and clients first.

5. They are a familiar face in the hospital

Doctors, specialists, administrators, and guests weave in and out during a hospital stay, but your nurse is there for you. They are on your team, cheering you on as your biggest motivators.

6. They manage countless responsibilities.

Monitoring medications and fluid levels. Coordinating care between different doctors. Managing pain. Explaining difficult diagnoses. That’s just a glimpse at your nurse’s workday.

7. They help us through some of the most difficult times in our lives.

Nurses embrace the art of compassion, offering a reassuring hand on your shoulder or a voice that speaks up on your behalf.

8. Nurses are on the front lines of your care.

Nurses have a depth of experience that help them navigate through some of the toughest situations.

9. Their work is emotional.

Nurses help you through a range of emotions during your stay.

10. Nurses are advocates.

Your nurse makes sure you’re heard when you need it most.

The Importance of Nurses

Of course, there are plenty of reasons to love nurses. We asked the UPMC Facebook community to share their thoughts, too.

“Nurses are the experts in the science of caring as well as the art of providing for the needs and well-being of another.”

“They do their job constantly with open ears with a great attitude no matter what the situation is. I appreciate them for caring for me when I was at Shadyside, St. Margaret, Hillman, and my local doctor’s office by my home.”

“Because they took great care of me even when I was not lovable”

“Nurses are just incredible people first and foremost. They care and give selflessly. So proud to be one!”

“Nurses work relentlessly.”

“All nurses are heroes!”
