The color pink makes a statement — especially in a stadium that’s typically flush with black and gold.

The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted breast cancer survivors and their loved ones on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016. Fans received pink-hued Terrible Towels, which they twirled in solidarity with the thousands of women and men touched by breast cancer each year.

The event, sponsored by UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, and Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, and Ford was part of the NFL’s A Crucial Catch campaign, an effort to raise awareness and donations for breast cancer screenings.

The American Cancer Society estimates that 246,660 American women and 2,600 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2016. Find out more about breast cancer, including facts about symptoms, treatment, and diagnosis.

Ford and UPMC donated $10,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Pittsburgh.

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, part of University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, and Magee-Womens Cancer Program, in partnership with Ford, presented a $10,000 check to Susan G. Komen Pittsburgh in a special on-field presentation.
